A Taste of Security
Poetry about the importance of local food security
i want to feed in safety —
secure in my foodie-ness
be healthy as i can be
prevent illness and moodiness
purchase tasty morsels
wholesome from a source
that is reliable and safe
with standards firm in force
it needs to be real
grown in ways i support
natural, rich, diverse options
through which people sort
affordable is important
and familiar to my tastes
so it satisfies the palate
as i consume every trace
but i also want to sample
foods brought from other lands
learn to savour and cook them
as my gastronomy demands
a secure relationship
with the food that i need
necessarily sustains life
if i’m to thrive and succeed
my quality of being
is enhanced by what i eat
when it’s nourishing, healthy
and boight local near my street.
